The group from the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Institute in Weinheim has been in Aviles since yesterday. This noon was received at the City Council by the mayor, and until next Tuesday will make an extensive list of activities.

"We hope that you know us, that you take advantage of the possibilities offered by this trip and that, when you return, you will remember Aviles as a place where you have learned and left good friends." With these words, the mayor of Aviles encouraged German students this morning to discover and enjoy the city. He did it during a municipal reception in which the councilor was accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Nuria Delmiro. The mayor of Citizens Carmen Pérez Soberón and Sharon Calderón also attended the event.

After welcoming the group, Mariví Monteserín highlighted the importance that Avilés places on exchange projects as a way to strengthen the European project. "We need a strong Europe, which continues to be a benchmark for democracy and social justice in the world," said the mayor. And for that, nothing like building bridges between young Aviles and those of the rest of the European Union. Monteserín described Avilés as an ancient city of great industrial tradition and cultural vocation, characteristics that also draw the Aviles of the future. He then delivered a small gift to each of the young people, who thanked the detail.

Before finalizing the act, the Chief of Protocol of the City Council, Ignacio Martínez, explained to the group some characteristics of the town hall building and its reception hall, as well as historical details about some of the characters represented in his paintings (Pedro Menéndez, Carreño Miranda or the Marquis of Teverga, among others).

Prior to the municipal reception, on its second day in Spain the young Germans met the facilities of the College by the Academic Director, Carmen Bueno. They also attended a talk about life and customs in Asturias and the Spanish education system by Professor Jonathan Walls, before making a visit to the historic center accompanied by Professor Esteban Suárez Pandiello.

Over the next few days, the group will carry out several activities that will help you get to know Asturias and share great moments with the fellow espñoles. Thus, tomorrow, Thursday, they will visit the center of Gijón and some of its most characteristic corners (Cimadevilla, Campa Torres, City Hall, Labor, etc). On Friday they will make a walking route along the coastal path that connects Bañugues and Luanco. Young Germans will share the weekend with their Spanish friends and their families, and on Monday they will visit Oviedo (the pre-Romanesque monuments, the old Oviedo and the modern Oviedo). Your visit will end on Tuesday with the celebration of a farewell spike at the College, after which you will leave for the airport to Germany.
