Magical weekend at the Quirinal to become champions of Asturias

The junior women's basketball team completed two excellent games to achieve a more than deserved championship.

Great weekend for our female juniors, who became champions of Asturias after two very intense matches against great rivals.

Last Friday the two semifinals were played that would give access to the grand final. On the one hand, École was played against Real Grupo Cultura Covadonga. On the other, Oviedo Club Baloncesto against our team, Sanfer-ADBA. The winner of the first was École, who was waiting for us to repeat last year's final.
On our side, we played a match where it was very difficult to withstand the tension and manage the logical nerves of a match of this level.

Oviedo, who came out with the clear idea of giving everything until the end, gave us a very quick clash, where the defensive balance we were making did not stop his counterattacks. Our rival's staging was better than ours. They chained several baskets in a row and we never scored easily. Despite this, in the first quarter we were able to go up a point (25-26). The second quarter had two phases. The beginning of the period was a replica of the first, going on to have 3-4 very good minutes where we opened a gap of 12 points, ending the fourth with doubts and making the same mistakes that had led us to give Oviedo an advantage. With this we went into the break 4 points up, knowing that our bench depth was going to be noticed at the end of the game.

In the third quarter it was already possible to see how our girls were more settled in the match and did not allow so many mistakes, getting to see the best minutes of the game. In the last quarter, and after the expulsion of their best player, the match was broken in our favor and we achieved an advantage of +22 points that made us qualify for the final.

In the match we were able to see several outstanding players, but the best news was the return of Llara, who was able to play 3 minutes after her return from injury.

The grand finale

After beating OCB in the semifinal, we played for the championship against the École school, a rival we know very well and that we knew we had to do things very well to be able to beat them. On this occasion there were not so many nerves on the part of our girls, something that helped us enter the match much less tense than in the previous match.

An 8-0 run in our favor made us very calm and unleashed all our offensive potential. Little by little we were increasing the distance on the scoreboard, seeing the defensive intensity of this team and enjoying the cheerful and unpredictable game that these players are used to. Three-pointers, counterattacks, spectacular passes, team plays, individual plays... the grand finale had everything.

Also thanks to the success and the good game, we were able to give minutes to all the players of the team, reaching the most emotional moment of the entire final. Marina González, who was injured a few weeks ago with the National team and who knew that she was not going to be able to play, entered the track to symbolically play the last minute. Surrounded by the ovation of the entire pavilion, the tears of all the companions and part of the public flooded the track. École behaved in an exemplary manner, letting her shoot a couple of times at the basket, knowing how important it is for our player to be able to jump on the court for a few seconds. We greatly appreciate her gesture on her part and applaud her sportsmanship throughout the 40 minutes.

Once again, all the players could be highlighted in this chronicle, but we must talk about Ángela Engonga. Champion of Asturias, MVP and top scorer in the final, a player who showed the high level that she has maintained throughout the season.

Now it's time to think about continuing training and preparing for a Spanish Championship that we know will be very difficult, but that we face with great enthusiasm and that we will enjoy to the fullest.

On the other hand, we want to congratulate the 3 teams in the final for their sportsmanship and good play shown, without forgetting the rest of the teams in the league that made it a very high level.

And now it's time to thank all the families who came to cheer on the team both Friday and Sunday in the final. We were able to enjoy a great atmosphere, feeling the warmth of all the girls and boys that make up the quarry teams. The players and the technical staff enjoyed a final like never before thanks to everyone present. Thank you very much and we hope to repeat what we have experienced in the coming seasons.
