Solidarity is one of the values that most characterize the School through multiple actions carried out throughout the course. One of the most anticipated is the Charity Festival, which this year advances the date of its celebration and passes from June to March. It will be the 23 day when this appointment will take place, from the 19: 00 hours in the auditorium.
As every year, the festival will feature the performance of students and alumni of the center, as well as the group of mothers who have been collaborating with the gala in recent years. The Dance Academy of Teresa Tessier, in which the students of the center are integrated, nor the performance of the students of the Modena Dance Workshop of the School will not be absent.
This year, the collection will be destined for a project of the NGO Manos Unidas in Benin, where there is an Asturian mission. It is a project in which all the Avilés arciprestazgo collaborates, and which aims to favor access to drinking water and improve the hygiene and quality of life of the population of Gambia, a town located in the north of the country. The project has a total amount of 65.526 euros, and to achieve them, Manos Unidos has organized a program of activities in which our Festival is included. The main feature of Manos Unidas is that the money raised goes entirely to the financing of the project, without losing a single euro in bureaucracy or intermediaries.
Involvement of students
The Charity Festival has a special involvement of 1st International Baccalaureate students, as it is part of the activities of the Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) core component of the Diploma Program. At the CAS level, the gala encompasses all its components: the C for 'creativity', because they will actively participate with the choreography of a dance; the A for 'activity', being something that implies action itself; and S for 'service', because it is an activity in which the values of solidarity predominate, since they are involved in a campaign to help the most disadvantaged. In short, a 100% CAS activity.
"We will try to put all our efforts to make it a success," say the students of 1º International Baccalaureate
IB 1st graders are going to participate in the festival with a dance they performed in Physical Education class, in which they review musical history from the 80s to the present. Their dance was chosen for the work they did, their originality and their good work. In addition, the young people will provide organizational support with regard to the preparation of the festival infrastructure. The students themselves summed up their feelings prior to the gala: "When we found out that our class was going to participate in the charity festival, we all felt proud of ourselves. Probably that day we will all be very nervous, and it is that for many of We will be the first time that we get on stage and perform in front of a large number of people. This is therefore a great challenge for us. However, knowing that we are going to be performing at a festival in which we are helping to an important cause is a source of satisfaction and we will try to do our best to make it a success. The experience of preparing our own dance has been unbeatable, and it will be an unforgettable memory. "
A date that leaves its mark
The Charity Festival of the School not only contributes to improving the lives of those people to whom the collection is destined every year, but also influences in a very positive way the lives of those who participate in it. This is the case of the former student of the Marina Garcia School, who repeats each year in this event giving free rein to her love for dance. "Participate in the charity festival of the College San Fernando it's a great personal pride, "she explains." Since I was little I've loved dancing and I'm still doing it, and doing something I like and turning it into a small contribution to help someone translates into something wonderful. Whenever I can and the organizers want to collaborate with my beloved College San Fernando, and I will feel very happy to contribute my bit to a good cause. I'm looking forward to the next festival. "
"Participating in the Charity Festival of the School is a great personal pride," says Marina García
Of similar opinion is Lucía Cerezo, a student of 4º of ESO who has also participated in several editions of the festival. "Singing is what I like to do most in the world and being able to help someone doing something that I love is a unique feeling and luck," he says. "These festivals show that by doing a bit of our part we can help people who really need it, and they also allow me to become aware of diseases that I did not even know existed, and I am satisfied with the simple fact of having them smile."
He has also participated in past editions, and will do it again in this one, Patricia Pérez, from ESO's 4º, to whom he fills "with pride and happiness the opportunity to participate year after year in the charity festivals of my school, since, while I'm doing what I like the most, whether it's dancing or making people laugh, I'm also helping those people who need it the most. " For her, the "reward feeling" she gets with this quote is indescribable: "it generates a sense of wellbeing and wonderful fulfillment, it makes you more sure of yourself and in turn makes you a more optimistic and positive person. It gives me the strength to make those who need it believe that they also have to be strong, courageous and insurmountable, as I try to show them on stage, in short, it helps me to value more what I have and to be able to reach those people. that nothing has to be an impediment for them ".
As every year, the entrance to the Benefit Festival is free. At the door there will be a box in which the spectators can deposit the donations, which are at the discretion of each one. In addition, there will be a 0 Row for those people who can not attend the gala, but who want to collaborate with the project. The collection of donations will be in the School Secretariat.
