The 2022 Sports Gala once again demonstrated the excellent level of our different sections in a great event that filled the Assembly Hall of the College. Image gallery for registered users.

Last Friday, March 3, the College held its 2022 Sports Gala, sponsored by Aceites Abril, in which the achievements of the most outstanding Sanfer teams and individual athletes of the 2021-22 season were recognized. It was the great sporting event of the day, and no one wanted to miss it. We have the presence of the presidents of the Asturian basketball federations, Alberto Cuervo; judo, José Ramón Díaz Maseda, and chess, Sergio Arias, the Councilor for Education and Sports, Nuria Delmiro, and the mayoress of Avilés, Mariví Monteserín. In addition, a very special guest: the sports psychologist Joaquín Valdés (former RFEF, FC Barcelona, ​​etc.), a national reference in his field.

The leaders of our fellow travelers in the basketball sections, ADBA, and soccer, Avilés Stadium, in the figures of their presidents María José Ondina and José Manuel Sal de Rellán, respectively, were also present. Everyone wanted to support the winners and certify the great youth work promoted by the College and both clubs.

Our director, Javier Martínez, welcomed the authorities, athletes and family members present at the gala and, in his speech, highlighted the importance of sport at the International School San Fernando, which is one of its hallmarks along with the offer of International Baccalaureate programs at all levels of the center and language teaching, especially English. Martínez congratulated all the winners and highlighted the momentum of the Sanfer sports and extracurricular activities offer, with more than a thousand students participating in some of them. In addition, he thanked the collaboration of the City Council and highlighted the collaboration with ADBA and Avilés Stadium, which is bearing such good results.

The prizes were then awarded to the winners, which were as follows:

  • Basketball: youngest female team (Cup runners-up), youngest male (League champion and Cup runner-up), juvenile male (League champions and Cup finalists), female children (bronze in the League), female cadet (League runners-up), junior female (Asturian champions), male junior (Asturian champions), female and male national; In addition, the players Adán Potesta (junior male), Ángela Engonga, Marta Rodríguez and Covadonga Pérez (junior and national female), Carla Campelo (infantile female), Diego Torre (male juvenile), Jesús García (youngest and male juvenile) and Lucía Fernández (cadet and female junior).

After the awards ceremony, Fernando Tamargo, coordinator of Sports and Activities of the School and organizer and presenter of the event, gave way to Joaquín Valdés, who in his speech stressed the importance of the playful component of sport, enjoyment and camaraderie, beyond the results.

The gala was closed by the mayoress, Mariví Monteserín, who highlighted the role of the College San Fernando As an educational and sports reference in Avilés, two aspects, education and sports, are basic in the city model promoted by the City Council. The councilor congratulated the winners and wished them the best for the future.

The Asturias anthem put the culmination of an appointment that demonstrated the high level of our sports sections and endorsed the College's commitment to sport and Avilesian society.
