Our chess players lived a great Sunday morning in the competition played at the La Magdalena sports center.

This Sunday the zone of the Sports Games of the Principality of individual chess was disputed, in which 82 players were enrolled, 27 of whom they stained of blue Sanfer the sports center of the Magdalena.

To begin with, great joy. In the 8 sub category, two players of the College were competing in the first place from start to finish. Luis Avila won the match and managed to proclaim champion with a full of victories, while Jorge Alvero had to settle for silver. A great performance that we hope will have continuity in the final phase.

Less luck had Álex Labra in the sub category 10. In a triple tie from the second to the fourth place, our partner was left with the chocolate medal, which at least serves to qualify for the final. Yago Mira and Lucas Alonso also had a remarkable performance, with an eighth and ninth place respectively.

In sub 12, she was not lucky with the tiebreakers Sara Zapatero, who despite being in the lead all the competition, a misstep in the last round relegated her to second place. In the same category, Claudia Arribas qualified for the final as best female and also scored a great performance Rodrigo González Martino, Ricardo García and Darío Sánchez, in the posts of the 5 to the 7.

The last medal for ours was tremendously fought. In the sub category 14, after a three-way tie to all the tiebreakers, it was necessary to dispute a mini-tournament to decide the 2 posts to the 4. Pablo Zapatero won with clarity and got a silver of great merit.

In short, a great performance in quantity and quality, with 4 medals and 6 classified for the final phase. Good luck to everyone!
